That community is Serenbe, a planned biophilic development founded by Steve Nygren in the late 1990s. It anchors the city's identity while the surrounding countryside — including historic Campbellton, once the county seat of Campbell County — remains horse and farm country. The city is home to roughly 3,800 residents, served by Fulton County Schools, including the Chattahoochee Hills Charter School. Recreation centers on the landscape itself: Cochran Mill Park offers about 18 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, with waterfalls and mill ruins, while Serenbe provides additional trails, a farmer's market, and seasonal events. For newcomers, Chattahoochee Hills offers something rare so close to a major city: genuine rural acreage, an intentional community ethos, and quick access to Atlanta's airport and economy.
